Many of our clients ask us if it is possible for them to rent a boat without needing to be in possession of some type of license or navigation license.
The answer is very simple: Yes, it is possible and then we will explain what you need to enjoy a day at sea.
Spanish legislation is very permissive in this regard and given the importance of the tourism sector in the economy of the country, it allows the rental of motor boats to anyone over 18 who is in possession of a driver’s license, passport or document of identity.
What kind of boats can I rent without a license?
By not having a navigation license, it is allowed to handle boats of no more than 5 meters in length and with an engine power never exceeding 15hp. If you are looking for a boat of this type you can find them here.
How far can I navigate without a license?
The maximum distance allowed to get away from the coast is 2 nautical miles (3.7 kilometers). Therefore the boat should always be less than 2 nautical miles from a port, cove, or beach where we can wait in case of bad weather.
Remember that in case you want to visit more remote sites and you are not in possession of a navigation license, we offer boat rentals with skipper.
